IWP researchers lead a study trip to Jakarta

2 Dec 2016

Assistant Professor Leong Ching and Senior Research Fellow Olivia Jensen led a Master in Public Administration (MPA) student group from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy to Jakarta for a week-long study trip as part of the Governance Study Project (GSP).

The group met with Vice President of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla, water supply agency Pam Jaya and multilateral development organisations such as the World Bank and Deltares. Students also visited the Pluit reservoir in North Jakarta and a community recycling facility.

MPA students will develop specific policy recommendations around themes such as coastal and river flooding, water supply, sanitation, disaster response, community participation, solid waste management, tourism and regeneration of Jakarta’s old town.

These policy recommendations will be represented and discussed with stakeholders at a conference at the LKY School in July 2017.

Part of the MPA program, the GSP is a year-long team-based module. Consisting of a study trip at the end of the first semester, a seminar, and a final conference at the end of the special term, the GSP introduces students to the complexity of real-world public policy problems in the region.
