Internship Experience with MAS

26 Sep 2024

My three-month internship at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) International Finance Division was an incredibly enriching experience. I studied the role of international currencies in the global financial system and the potential implications of geopolitics and digital finance. This assignment not only broadened my understanding of global financial systems but provided an insight into the intricate balance required to maintain financial stability in an ever-evolving geopolitical landscape.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my internship was the opportunity to witness firsthand the dedication and expertise of the MAS staff. Their unwavering commitment to Singapore’s financial wellbeing was truly inspiring. I observed how their meticulous work contributes to the nation’s financial stability and development. This experience deepened my appreciation for the critical role that MAS plays in safeguarding Singapore’s financial future.

Throughout my internship, I was fortunate to receive guidance and mentorship from experienced professionals who were generous with their knowledge and time. Their insights and advice were invaluable in helping me navigate complex financial concepts and develop a more nuanced understanding of the industry. The collaborative atmosphere at MAS encouraged me to ask questions, seek feedback, and continuously improve my skills.

In addition to the professional growth I experienced, my internship at MAS also offered personal growth opportunities. I learned the importance of adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment. The challenges I faced and the successes I achieved have given me a stronger sense of confidence and a clearer vision of my career aspirations.

Beyond work, I had the privilege of participating in several key events that showcased the vibrant culture at MAS. My internship coincided with the MAS annual OneMAS Connect (OMC) 2024 and the Annual Dinner. These events provided a unique glimpse into the organisation’s culture, revealing both the serious and fun sides of MAS. OMC 2024 showcased the organisation’s transparency and collaborative spirit, where staff members from various departments came together to discuss achievements, challenges, and future goals.

The Annual Dinner, on the other hand, was a celebration of the hard work and dedication of the MAS team. It was a night filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a strong sense of belonging. These events also highlighted the importance of work-life balance and the value MAS places on fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment.

Overall, when I look back at my internship at MAS, I felt it had been a transformative journey that significantly shaped my understanding of international finance and the pivotal role of regulatory bodies. The experience had not only enhanced my hard and soft skills but also instilled in me a deep appreciation for the dedication and purpose that drive an organisation like MAS. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such a prestigious organisation and look forward to applying the lessons learned in my future endeavours.
