Danny Quah IEA Fellow 2023

The International Economic Association (IEA) has awarded its prestigious IEA Fellow for 2023 to Professor Danny Quah, Dean of Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and Li Ka Shing Professor in Economics. The IEA instituted the annual IEA Fellow honorific award to recognise excellence in economic research, research-driven popular writing, and economic policymaking.

“This is a recognition of outstanding work and is awarded to at most 10 individuals in the world,” said the IEA in a statement.

The IEA, a non-government organisation founded in 1950 with support from the Social Sciences Department of UNESCO, aims to promote personal contacts and mutual understanding among economists in different parts of the world through the organisation of scientific meetings, through common research programs and by means of publications of an international character on problems of current importance.
On the award, Prof Quah said: “I am deeply honoured to be selected as an IEA Fellow."

Prof Quah’s research interests lie in income inequality, economic growth, and international economic relations, and his work centres on the economic approach to world order —focusing on global power shift and the rise of the east, and alternative models of global power relations.

He is also Commissioner on the Spence-Stiglitz Commission on Global Economic Transformation, and serves on the committees of prominent institutes and organisations, including the Executive Committee of the IEA; the Advisory Council of Bennett Institute, Cambridge University; the Academic Advisory Board of Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford University; the Global Advisory Board, Tsinghua University's School of Public Policy and Management; the Eminent Advisory Council of UNDP Asia-Pacific; and the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council for Geopolitics. He is Vice President, Economic Society of Singapore.
