The Institute of Policy Studies will be hosting this town-hall meeting for students and staff in Singapore’s institutions of higher learning (IHLs) to seek views and perspectives on population matters. The meeting will ask participants to envision their life, their family and Singapore society in 2050 when they are on the brink of becoming senior citizens. Do they envisage an old age with family and children for support, or will they depend on the state or themselves? If the former, how will it be paid for? The outcome envisioned will greatly depend on the actions that the Gen Ys take over the next years and decades, such as whether they will marry and have children, their willingness to prolong their work-life, etc.
The meeting would also ask participants about what it means to be a Singaporean, and what it takes for new immigrants to be accepted into Singaporean society.
