The Multilateral Sustainable Development Landscape: Progress and Setbacks

As of 2024, it looks like most of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals are not going to be accomplished. The Conferences of the Parties of the three Rio Conventions (climate change, biodiversity, and land degradation/desertification) are convening. Negotiations on a plastics treaty are progressing, but is all of this multilateral activity accomplishing anything? This talk will review the status of implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the interlinkages with key environmental treaties, summarize the state of play, and look forward to what’s next.
