Panel Discussion

The Future of Green Finance in Asia

The National University of Singapore (NUS) raised S$300 million through its first green bond, launched in May 2020. The proceeds will be used to fund sustainability projects related to green buildings, renewable energy and energy efficient infrastructure, sustainable water and wastewater management, pollution prevention and control, etc. as part of NUS’s Green Finance Framework. NUS is the first university in Asia to launch such a framework on sustainability-linked finance, and to issue a green bond. Green bonds and other green finance instruments have gained popularity over the last few years and hold great potential for unlocking private capital to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Against this backdrop, this panel discussion will spotlight on the

• Challenges and opportunities for green finance in Asia
• Singapore’s role in mainstreaming green finance in Asia and globally
• Motivation behind the NUS Green Bond
• Role of higher educational institutions in green finance
• Career opportunities for policy and international relations (IR) graduates in green finance
