The work conference co-organised by the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP) and the LKYSPP Beijing Alumni Chapter was successfully held on July 28, 2016.
The representatives from the Beijing Alumni Chapter extended a warm welcome to Mr. Dane Lim, Director of External Affairs & Marketing and the two other representatives that joined him in Beijing to support the teachers’ student recruitment effort carried out in different ministries.
During their visit to Beijing, Director Dane Lim, Ms. Tracy Lee, Associate Director of Marketing & Communications and Ms. Mia Lu, Assistant Head of Region, Admissions, had a packed itinerary where they visited the human resource departments of different ministries. During these visits, both parties engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions where they shared similar views with regard to the career prospects of future graduates. The new executive committee members of the Beijing Alumni Chapter also had a friendly exchange with the new alumni representatives.
During the work conference, Director Dane Lim was the first to address the crowd. He, on the behalf of school dean Professor Kishore Mahbubani, thanked the alumni for their warm reception and updated them about the school’s latest developments. This included the newly established Master in International Affairs programme that is going to open applications for admissions in August 2016, as well as an annual meeting for the International Affairs Programme Union that the school will organise in 2017. Director Lim also mentioned that Professor Kishore will visit Beijing next year and hoped that the Beijing Alumni Chapter would give him support.
The Beijing Alumni Chapter is acknowledged by the Lee Kuan Yew School as one of the most active one with a “golden reputation” out of all the alumni groups in different countries. As such, Director Dane Lim, on behalf of the school, said he hopes to strengthen ties with the Beijing Alumni Chapter to enhance both parties’ cooperation on a strategic level, so as to contribute more to the school’s future development.
After his speech, Ms Mia Lu used a PowerPoint presentation to showcase the admission and graduation details of the LKYSPP students in China this year. She also made explicit requests pertaining to both parties’ strategic cooperation, including establishing a permanent institution for alumni in Beijing to offer sustainable support and help for their student recruitment efforts. The alumni listened to Mia Lu’s speech attentively and gave valuable feedback with regard to their alma mater’s recruitment efforts.
Beijing Alumni Chapter President Wang Ke Jian said that the Alumni Chapter has always strongly supported all sorts of activities organised by LKYSPP in Beijing, including the Sino-Sing development forum, and maintained strong relations with all the teachers. Mr Wang said that the Beijing Alumni Chapter was very honoured to be able to extend help during the school’s initial stage of student recruitment by facilitating exchanges and communication, such as providing more information about the training needs of Beijing’s ministries, state-owned enterprises and other organisations in their support of their alma mater’s work.
Director Dane Lim also brought along a letter of appointment from school dean Professor Kishore. Since the establishment of the Beijing Alumni Chapter, the number of alumni members has grown to 660 people through the hard work of the previous two batches of Alumni Chapter committees, with an additional 69 newly graduated students joining the big family this year. President Wang Ke Jian, in the presence of the former Chapter President, other executive members and newly graduated students, accepted and signed off the letter of appointment from Professor Kishore.
