On 8 September, the LKYSPP Singapore Alumni Chapter hosted AlumIdeas: Botanic Firesides, an open fireside dialogue with Acting Minister for Manpower and Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information Jasmin Lau on AI, work, and governance in Singapore.
Several themes stood out from the discussion:
- AI adoption is no longer the main question — governance is.
- There is no one-size-fits-all approach to AI adoption in Singapore’s diverse business landscape.
- Good governance requires judgment, not just capability — understanding not only what AI can do, but when it should and should not be used.
- A longer-term view matters, especially when considering the kind of society and outcomes Singapore wants to build over the next 10 to 20 years.

Attendees left with a stronger understanding of Singapore’s current policy posture on AI, and a clearer sense of the vigilance needed around governance, equity, and workforce transition in the years ahead.
