IPS-Nathan Lecture

IPS-Nathan Lectures by Mr Lim Siong Guan: Lecture III (“The Way of Hope”)

Can Singapore Fall?  As a young nation, we have focused our energies on building a strong, independent, and sovereign Singapore.  However, after decades of unprecedented growth and prosperity, we now have to guard against the danger of complacency, ossification, and decline. It is timely to contemplate the possibility of Singapore’s failure.

Mr Lim’s third and final lecture, “The Way of Hope”, will consider how Singapore can prepare for a world of increasing volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA). While there are initiatives to promote innovation and continuous skills upgrading, what we need is innovation and self-improvement as a way of life and a habit of the mind.  We need an adaptive mindset, characterised by imagination, tenacity, courage, and humility (ITCH!)  Mr Lim will show how this can help Singaporeans to develop to their fullest potential, regardless of what the future looks like.
