The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a major disruptive force on the global economy has had immense consequences on jobs, businesses and organisations. Beyond initial worries over AI displacing jobs, concerns are also rising over the ethics of AI application and uncertainties about the digital future. While the benefits of AI have been widely touted in reports and studies, media reports are also increasingly reflecting a growing scepticism towards AI, questioning in particular the full costs – both visible and hidden – of implementing AI into workflows, and whether the full impact of AI has been thoroughly assessed. Meanwhile, countries around the world are starting to establish frameworks for AI governance and safe AI innovation. Singapore’s National AI Strategy 2.0 represents the nation’s commitment to building an AI ecosystem in which “AI serves as a force for good”, while strengthening its efforts to be at the forefront of embracing and leveraging this transformative technology.
At the individual level, LinkedIn’s Future of Work report released in August 2023 found that Singapore workers are the world’s fastest when it comes to adopting AI skills, at eight times higher than the global average. Nevertheless, is the Singapore workforce adequately prepared for the future of work? As jobs undergo redesign, what critical competencies will emerge as indispensable skills in an AI-driven economy? At the organisational level, how can companies harness the potential of AI to carve out new niches and thrive in the age of AI?
Join our speakers for an insightful session as they discuss the transformative impact of AI on the evolving landscape of work in Singapore. The session will be moderated by Dr Laurel Teo, Senior Research Fellow at IPS.
