ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Traditionally, the policy sciences have exhibited a paradoxical relationship to public behaviour: arguing in theory that it was rational in a utilitarian sense and could be modelled as such while at the same time recognizing its irrational nature in practice without attempting to reconcile this contradiction.
A recent behavioural turn among policy scholars has broken the discursive hegemony of traditional hedonic compliance-deterrence models, however, placing informal institutions such as norms, irrationalities and collective action at the centre of the policy research agenda.
This workshop is timed between the behavioural public policy conferences and aims to bring together scholars interested in the use of behavioural economics and sciences to inform public policy design, to map out the current state of the Behavioural State, and to encourage the increased adoption of behavioural approaches and interventions in policy decisions.
This workshop seeks to benefit our participants in these ways:
1. Polishing your raw studies into manuscripts ready for submission to publications
2. Fostering partnership between academic researchers of behavioural public policy and promote collaborations between academics and policy-makers/policy practitioners
3. Promoting knowledge-sharing by inviting esteemed behavioural public policy scholars and practitioners to share their research and insights in this area
Additionally, the workshop aims to advance the field of behavioural public policy by:
1. Charting the development of the field and latest theoretical developments
2. Debating on the potential and challenges with different intervention tools, and the most appropriate contexts to apply such interventions
3. Exploring the possible cultural and contextual differences of applying behavioural public policy
4. Brainstorming for ways to enhance collaborative efforts across different policy stakeholders
