On 5 August 2015, the LKY School Alumni Relations Office and the School’s Philippines Alumni Chapter Committee organised a reunion dinner in Makati City, Metro Manila. A record number of 30 former students were in attendance. They came from a broad range of programmes and years – the most senior graduate present was Ms Antonia Corinthia C.N. Naz (MPP 1995), while three fresh graduates from the Class of 2015 took part too. Most of the alumni are working in the public sector, such as the Supreme Court, Intramuros Association and the Departments of Education, Tourism, and the Environment and Natural Resources. Others hail from international NGOs and private-sector companies including Huawei Technologies Philippines and Development Bank of the Philippines.
Singapore’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Ms Kok Li Peng, gave a speech to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Singapore’s independence, after Committee President Mr Richard Domingo Tan (MPM 2012) had delivered a report on the activities of the Philippines Chapter. Ambassador Kok’s speech drew from some of Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s recent statements on this national milestone. The Alumni Relations Office also provided an update on the School’s recent work with former students.
Many of the Philippines alumni expressed pride in the LKY School and have taken active steps to spread the word about the School on social media and in international networks. Both Mr Tan and Ms Naz, as well as alumna Ms Maria Anthonette Velasco (MPM 2006), were acknowledged for being particularly enthusiastic in campaigning for the School.
The Philippines Chapter Committee expressed satisfaction that a record-breaking attendance had been achieved at the reunion dinner. Both the Chapter and the Alumni Relations Office felt that the Chapter Committee had established strong links with former students in the Philippines and alumni matters could be taken to a new level.
