The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the perils of inequality, deepening the cracks that may compromise a country’s capacity to remain economically and politically stable. The recent media reports on migrant workers’ living conditions in Singapore, the protests in US highlighting housing, social and medical inequalities among African Americans, and Philippine’s controversial anti-terrorism bill that puts the poor at a disadvantage - all of which suggest that there need to be a better management of inequality issues. Is this an issue that governments and countries should prioritise and work on, amongst all the other important issues that COVID-19 has brought about? If so, what should countries and governments around the world focus on to ensure a fairer economy post-COVID-19? What are the trade-offs and changes that we need to achieve a more equal society?
