The future cannot be predicted. But it is the business of government to prepare for the future. How can governments maximise the chances of good outcomes, and generate optimism for the future? This fourth lecture draws the threads of the previous three lectures, and concludes by providing some pointers for the futureSpeaker:
Mr Peter Ho is the 2016/17 S R Nathan Fellow
for the Study of Singapore.
He is also the Senior Advisor to the Centre for Strategic Futures, a Senior Fellow in the Civil Service College, an Adjunct Professor at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, and a Visiting Fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
When Mr Ho retired from the Singapore Administrative Service in 2010 after a career in the Public Service stretching more than 34 years, he was Head, Civil Service, concurrent with his other appointments of Permanent Secretary (Foreign Affairs), Permanent Secretary (National Security and Intelligence Coordination), and Permanent Secretary (Special Duties) in the Prime Minister’s Office. Before that, he was Permanent Secretary (Defence). He was also the inaugural Chairman of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.
Mr Ho is Chairman of the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore, Social Science Research Council, Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering, the National Supercomputing Centre. He is a member of the National University of Singapore Board of Trustees, a board member of the Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship, a member of the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies’ Board of Governors, and a council member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
