DEEPENING FORESIGHTS-BASED SECTOR INTERVENTIONS
ADB Sectors Group Internship Proposal
Background
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has undergone a transformative shift in its new operating model, aiming to enhance ADB’s effectiveness to serve the rapidly changing needs of its developing member countries in Asia and the Pacific, and deliver on the ambitious development goals of ADB’s corporate strategy, Strategy 2030. This transformation journey is driven by the need to address complex and dynamic challenges across the Asian region. As part of this strategic realignment, ADB is adopting innovative tools such as design-thinking and foresight methodologies to gain a deeper understanding of future trends, risks, and opportunities that may impact the sectors it engages with.
ADB recognizes the importance of incorporating foresight into decision-making processes to proactively design interventions that are resilient, adaptive, and aligned with emerging needs. This strategic shift marks a departure from traditional reactive models, emphasizing a more anticipatory and forward-looking stance in the planning and execution of sector interventions.
Against this backdrop, the challenge lies in further deepening the integration of foresight methodologies into ADB's sector interventions. This entails refining and expanding the application of foresight tools, methodologies, and analyses to ensure a comprehensive and nuanced understanding of what are likely to be highly disruptive in the context of ADB work. The goal is to enable ADB to develop and implement sector interventions that are not only responsive to current challenges but also equipped to navigate and shape the evolving landscape of Asia and the Pacific.
