The Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) is looking for a highly motivated full-time Research Associate with an interest in financial sector, focusing on banks and financial institutions. Ideal candidates would have at least a Master’s degree and preferably a PhD in economics, finance, or closely related areas. Strong skills in applied econometric analysis are essential.
Responsibilities
- Assist in conducting applied economic research (using econometric analysis and other quantitative methods, including machine learning tools) on banks and financial institution topics
- Help draft research papers, including conducting literature reviews
- Compile and analyze firm-level industry data
- Maintain and update statistical databases
- Help draft economic reports, including producing and editing text, tables, and figures
- Assist in organizing conferences, workshops, and other research events
- Support other projects and activities as assigned
Requirements
- At least a master’s degree and preferably a PhD in economics, finance (with specific focus on banks and financial institutions), or closely related areas
- Professional experience in econometric analysis is preferred
- Familiarity with economic and financial development topics of relevance to Asia and the Pacific
- Hands-on knowledge of economic and financial databases like World Bank, IMF, Bloomberg, etc.
- Willingness to engage in stability, competition policy, governance, and climate change and green productivity, and digitalization issues in Asia
- Strong quantitative skills in econometrics and statistics, such as competence using panel data, bank or firm-level data and empirical analysis, and familiarity with statistical packages, such as STATA, E-Views, Arc GIS, Matlab, or R.
- At least two years of research experience (post-graduate research is applicable), including drafting publishable papers, conducting literature reviews, data compilation, and analysis
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
Appointment Terms
Research Associates serve for limited terms as independent contractors in a personal capacity, with an initial one-year contract and a possible one-year extension based on performance. The maximum duration of service is two years in total. Social insurances are not provided. Research Associates are neither officers nor staff of ADBI and work under the direct supervision of ADBI professional staff and the overall guidance of the Vice Chairs of Research.
