The 2018 MGI report estimates Singapore could add US$20 billion (S$28 billion) - or a 5 per cent increase - to its gross domestic product by 2025 if it improved gender equality.
And the rise in female LFP has already contributed to household income growth in the last decade, said Institute of Policy Studies senior research fellow Christopher Gee, explaining that as more women remain or return to the workforce, this contributes to the household's overall income, which may also help reduce inequality in the long term.
Some of the solutions, like legislating flexi-work, may seem radical for now. But doing so will put us in good stead for the next crisis, which the nation's current flexi-work experiment during the coronavirus outbreak should prepare us for.
