Kanti Bajpai speaks at the launch of the 2019 Lowy Institute Asia Power Index

29 May 2019

On May 29, 2019, Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew School hosted the launch of the 2019 Lowy Institute Asia Power Index.

The Asia Power Index is an interactive digital tool ranking 25 countries in terms of the power they wield in the Asia-Pacific region. The Index ranks countries as far west as Pakistan, as far north as Russia, and as far into the Pacific as Australia, New Zealand and the United States. The Index measures eight types of power: military capability, defence networks, economic resources, economic relationships, diplomatic influence, cultural influence, resilience and future resources.

Prof. Kanti Bajpai was part of a discussion about the Index, in a panel consisting of Herve Lemahieu, Director of the Lowy Institute's Asian Power and Diplomacy Program, Bonnie Bley, Research Fellow in the Program, Prof. Khong Yuen Foong, Professor of Political Science at Lee Kuan Yew School, and chaired by Lowy Institute Executive Director Dr Michael Fullilove.
