Singapore Perspectives 2019 “Singapore.World”

The Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) will hold its annual flagship Singapore Perspectives (SP) conference on Monday, 28 January 2019. The theme of SP2019 is “Singapore.World”.  It will consider recent geopolitical developments, their trajectory for the coming years and implications for Singapore and our region.

The post-Cold War world order is undergoing significant disruptions and headed towards prolonged uncertainty. If US-China tensions escalate, pressures on ASEAN will intensify. We can expect anxiety to grow among citizens of Singapore and Southeast Asia, who may be divided on how we should deal with the US and China. We hope that this conference can provide a far-sighted and hard-nosed perspective on the structural issues at work in US-China relations, elucidate the implications for Singapore and our region, and offer ideas on how we can successfully meet the challenges and opportunities, both as a country and a society.

We are featuring prominent speakers like Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan; former Singapore Foreign Minister George Yeo; former Indonesian Foreign Minister Dr Marty Natalegawa; Managing Director of the Economic Development Board of Singapore Chng Kai Fong, Professor Wang Gungwu, and former Singapore Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Bilahari Kausikan.
