Consider this: A recruiter spends just 6 seconds reviewing an applicant’s résumé before deciding the candidate’s suitability for a job (Source: Forbes; LinkedIn). Being able to write an effective résumé and cover letter is crucial during the job search process. In this workshop, tips on composing a letter of application and an effective résumé will be discussed. Workshop participants will also be introduced to the PAR/STAR method, a practical way to highlight and quantify one’s work achievements. Samples of cover letters and résumés will be used to illustrate how seemingly minute details can affect the effectiveness of a written job application. As this is a practical workshop session, participants are strongly encouraged to bring along a copy of their cover letter and résumé for self- and peer review.
