Founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew’s inaugural visit to China was in 1976. Singapore has, for these last four decades since, enjoyed excellent relations with China both politically as well as on the economic front. China is one of our biggest trading partners and Singapore is the largest foreign investor in China. Projects like Suzhou Industrial Park and Tianjin Eco-City are concrete examples of this friendship, which has flourished through mutual respect and trust.
Recently, there appears to have been some ups and downs in bilateral relations. What has changed? What is the “futurescape” of Singapore-China relations? What does China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative mean for the region and Singapore? What are the opportunities and risks for Singapore businesses?
Ambassador Stanley Loh will share with IPS Corporate Associates his views on these issues, drawing on his diplomatic experience as Singapore’s Ambassador to China.
