The complexity of policy issues facing decision-makers in the 21st century call for a rethinking of how content from policy theory and practice is taught. There are many pedagogical innovations that are already being practiced or under conceptualization in Asian universities by scholars and educators active in policy research, teaching and education and training for practitioners. These include innovations in curriculum design, such as novel learning outcomes for public policy ranging from skill development in modelling and computational techniques for policy design and evaluation to means of knowledge brokerage for policy practice. Besides new learning outcomes, there are also innovations in teaching activities and student learning evaluations with increased use of technology, fieldwork and classroom-dialogue to bridge the gap between public policy theory, practice and teaching.
Taking stock of recent developments in policy education in Asia, this panel brings together educators and policy researchers to share insights from their research and teaching on:
1. The changing landscape of policy education in Asia and key trends,
2. Expected learning outcomes for advancing policy studies,
3. Pedagogical approaches and methods that can help to achieve diverse learning outcomes,
4. Practical application of emerging pedagogies for policy education
