The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is the world’s leading independent authority on global security issues, providing information and analysis on a wide range of international security and political risk questions. The Institute conducts research on the problems of conflict, however caused, that may have a significant military dimension, and analyses international trends, including economic developments, which may have strategic implications.
The IISS, headquartered in London and with international offices in Bahrain, Germany, Singapore, and the United States, is seeking to appoint a Research Analyst to contribute to the work of the Cyber Power and Future Conflict (CPFC) Programme. While the CPFC programme is based in Singapore, its research is global. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals in the early stages of a career in the field of cyber policy and international relations.
The role reports to the Senior Fellow for Cyber Power and Future Conflict, and the successful candidate will work jointly with colleagues in the CPFC team and in other IISS offices.
Responsibilities
- Undertaking detailed research into projects led by the CPFC Research Fellows.
- Producing original, authoritative research on relevant topics for IISS publications, including developing smaller designated research projects independently.
- Collection and assessment of data for IISS publications and CPFC databases.
- Supporting corporate engagements including IISS member briefings, consultancy reports, and programme administration.
Requirements
Skills
- Expertise in international cyber policy and the way in which governments, their national security agencies and their armed forces plan for and use cyber capabilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Data collection and analysis.
- Event management.
- Fully competent in written and spoken English, and preferably one other language.
Educational qualification
- Preferably a postgraduate degree in related studies.
Remuneration
The successful candidate would ideally be able to start by 1 July 2024. This position is for a fixed term of 2 years and may be considered for renewal at the end of the contract. The salary offered will be competitive and will be accompanied by benefits including health and life insurances.
