THE ROLE

The Alliance is seeking a highly motivated and driven Public Affairs Intern. The Public Affairs Intern will report to the Director of Public Affairs & Outreach.Their duties will include research on international treaties, assisting with bilateral country engagements, providing materials for webinars with member companies, and will work alongside the other members of the Public Affairs team to achieve the Alliance's core strategic and aspirational objectives while enhancing the organization's profile and reputation amongst key stakeholders.

The Public Affairs Intern will support the development of policy engagement strategies and help drive their implementation. The intern will be responsible for policy research, stakeholder mapping, and assisting in driving engagement with stakeholder groups, including national and local governments, intergovernmental organizations, member companies and industry associations, non-governmental organizations, and partners, to build a positive reputation for the organization and influence desired outcomes

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand member companies ESG priorities as they relate to combating plastic waste and identify policy synergies with governments that will advance a sustainable, circular economy.

  • Support and participate in regular virtual meetings with senior company representatives from Alliance members. These members include the global industry leaders in the plastic value chain.

  • Conduct research on international treaties related to plastic waste management and analyze their impact on the Alliance's mission and operations.

  • Provide administrative and logistical support for key policy events, such as a solutions fair, which bring together global MNCs to demonstrate to government policy makers innovative solutions for addressing plastic waste. 

  • Assist in developing policy engagement strategies, including identifying market-driven mechanisms that can contribute to the mutual goals of the private sector, governments and NGOs in ending plastic waste.

  • Support stakeholder mapping and engagement with national and local governments, intergovernmental organizations, member companies and industry associations, non- governmental organizations, and partners.

  • Contribute to bilateral country engagement meetings by providing logistical support and conducting research that includes country-specific economic factors related to each countries’ domestic economy and private sector actors.

  • Support the Public Affairs Director and other team members in managing public affairs consultants and ensuring coordination of their activities in strategy execution.

  • Contribute to the Alliance's broader strategy to end plastic waste in the environment

    CRITICAL EXPERIENCE

    • Interest in public policy, international relations, private sector ESG engagement, and sustainable development issues.

    • Highly collaborative and results-driven with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    • Must be fluent in English.

    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and priorities.

    • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

    • Experience researching the impact of government policies on the private sector is a plus but not required.

    • Undergraduate, graduate level student, or recent graduate in a relevant field including law, business, international relations, political science or communications.

    • Must be able to legally work in Singapore without needing to be sponsored for an Employment Pass.
