Younghoon Kim is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.
He is a trade economist, with a focus on shifts in trade policies driven by geopolitical tensions. His recent research examines how firms respond to trade policy shocks by adjusting their sourcing strategies, production and exports, through a case study of the 2019 Korea-Japan Trade Dispute.
He received a B.A. in Economics from Seoul National University, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles. He was awarded the Fulbright Scholarship during his doctoral studies.
Prior to his academic career, he served as a civil servant in the Korean government. He worked as a Deputy Director at the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Seoul Metropolitan Government, after passing the National Higher Civil Service Examination in 2013.
