Winners of the 2018/19 Case Writing Competition announced

19 Jun 2019

The entries to this year's competition were of a very high quality, and our team enjoyed learning more about issues from China's Social Credit System to the Philippine War on Drugs. Submissions were well-balanced, useful as teaching tools, and offered compelling narratives about substantive and complex issues.

The winners received their awards from Professor Francesco Mancini, Associate Dean and Co-Director (Executive Education) during the networking event of the Policy Analysis Exercise Conference 2019 on 12 April 2019.

Eleni Ayala Ojeda

“The case study competition was a great opportunity to explore a topic I find very interesting in a creative and analytical way. Working on the case also challenged me to take on this new and exciting topic in a way that had not been done before. I hope it may be useful to others in the future and am grateful for the all the institutional support I received.”

Kathleen Rose Gatchalian Kho

“The LKYSPP Case Writing Competition provides a unique platform for students to take a deep dive into our research interests and ideas we are passionate about and challenge ourselves beyond the classroom. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to write and be heard about issues concerning my home country, the Philippines."

Lim Jun Jie Gabriel, Muhammad Ruzaini Naim Bin Azman and Tham Kah Jun, Gregory

“The Case Study has been an enriching experience for the three of us – combining different disciplines (Economics, Sociology and Urban Studies), and applying what was taught in Public Policy modules to analyse real world issues. Great team effort!”

“The case study competition is a remarkable opportunity to contribute to a body of knowledge narrating relevant (and current) social issues and phenomena in Asia, with an added bonus of winning a cash prize and having the chance to be published by the school. For this particular purpose, my co-author and I used this opportunity to write about the experience of our home country - the Philippines - in a way that can be used for actual educational purposes. I am extremely grateful for the validation that this competition has brought in terms of just knowing that the story of our country needs to continuously be told.”

Nirnaya Bhatta and Dhanya Gopal

“It is a matter of pride to have one's Case Study featured in possible modules taught at the LKY School- to shed light on a policy problem to an audience that comprises the brightest policymakers of Asia and beyond. Does something around your own society deeply bother you? If yes, there is no other platform than participating in the LKY School's Case Study Competition to make yourself clear about it. It is a great opportunity.”

Yoke Leng was unable to attend the Case Writing Competition Award Ceremony in April as she was overseas. She will be receiving her award at the MPM Valedictory Dinner.

“I stayed up during the wee hours in the mornings for about a week to finish the case and submitted it with a few hours to spare before the deadline. It was hectic but I enjoyed writing the case and was glad to have won for myself and the last cohort of MPMs.”
