For Dr Mathew Mathews, head of the Institute of Policy Studies' Social Lab, it is all about helping new citizens feel a deeper emotional connection to the country and its people, since the existing curriculum already captures aspects such as local norms, understanding the value of important institutions in the country and having a sense of Singapore's history.
He said: "Given that new citizens might be of higher socio-economic background compared to a portion of Singaporeans, perhaps it will be important to help them connect with Singaporean heartlanders.
"These encounters may help new citizens better understand what Singaporeans take pride in, for instance, their HDB flats."
