The recent spate of fake news and false information going viral in different parts of the world, including Singapore, has given rise to concerns relating to their impact on society, security and governance. The Singapore government has recently announced that it is looking into legislating against fake news.
Together with First Draft, a non-profit coalition formed in 2015 to address challenges relating to trust and truth in the digital age, the Institute of Policy Studies will be holding a closed-door discussion (CDD) on the topic, “Fake News and the Information Ecosystem: What Should be Done?”
The closed-door discussion will present the latest research and initiatives relating to fake news, misinformation and disinformation. The aim is to identify approaches and to-dos moving forward, such as in the areas of policy, journalism, media literacy, and fact-checking.
To facilitate an in-depth and candid discussion, the event is open to a small group comprising policymakers, academics and representatives from the media and technology sectors.
