IPS Conference on Managing Diversity in Singapore

The conference brings together scholars, policy makers and community leaders to examine the realities, challenges and potentials of increasing diversity in Singapore. How can current and future policy measures enable us to navigate this terrain? Dr Janil Puthucheary, Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information and Ministry of Education, will be the Guest of Honour for this event.

There will be four panels. The first panel will deal with the management of multicultural Singapore and will discuss how we navigate cultural diversities and multilingualism. The second panel relates to new differences that come with globalisation. We will focus on how value pluralism and the differences that arise from socioeconomic class can be managed. Then we look at the desire for inclusion, which is integral in the discourse on diversity. Here we examine what counts as inclusion for the disabled and how marginal artists find voice, specifically through Youtube. The final panel examines how our diversities can be harnessed for a better Singapore.
