In her book, Willful Blindness, Ms Heffernan makes the case that we are often blind to the risks and threats facing our organizations even though they are often obvious if we look hard enough. Indeed, it is not the unknown unknowns which are our greatest threats, but the unknown knowns – the risks or problems that are knowable and we should know about, but which we willfully choose to ignore. Instead, we are blinded by our assumptions, perceptions, habits, our love of the familiar, and our aversion to change and conflict.
In this roundtable, Ms Heffernan will discuss what makes us blind and the new habits that we need to form to check against making decisions blindly. Mr David Skilling, Director of Landfall Strategy Group and long-term observer of Singapore will respond and discuss the implications of ‘willful blindness’ in Singapore.
