Jie-Sheng Tan-Soo is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Institute for Environment and Sustainability at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.
He received his PhD in Environmental Policy from Duke University. His research focuses on the design and evaluation of climate and environmental policies, with particular interests in demand-side climate mitigation, energy transition, carbon markets, water governance, and natural resource management.
By combining environmental economics with rigorous empirical methods, he studies how individuals, firms, and governments respond to environmental risks and policy incentives, with the aim of developing evidence-based solutions for sustainable development. His research has been published in leading journals including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Nature Climate Change, Nature Communications, and the Journal of Development Economics.
His work has informed international policy discussions through organizations including the World Bank, FAO, and the Asian Development Bank Institute, and has been featured in international media such as the BBC, SCMP, Fortune magazine, Lianhe Zaobao and The Straits Times.
