Gift Recognition & Benefits

Most donations are tax-deductible and will immediately double in value through dollar-for-dollar government matching. Donors will also be given appropriate recognition for their contributions.

Tax Benefits
Tax Benefits

From 1 January 2011, all donors are required to provide their tax reference number (e.g. NRIC/FIN/UEN) when they make a gift to the University in order to be given tax deductions on the gift. Tax deductions for the gift will be automatically reflected in the donors' tax assessments based on the information from the University. If the tax deduction for the gift is more than your taxable income for the year, the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) allows you to carry forward the unutilised deduction for a maximum of five years.

Singapore tax residents will receive a 250 percent tax deduction for donations made from 2016 to 2023
Singapore tax residents will receive a 250 percent tax deduction for donations made from 2016 to 2026

To continue encouraging Singaporeans to give back to the community and to provide strong support for the charity sector, DPM and Minister for Finance has announced in Budget 2023 that the 250% tax deduction for qualifying donations will be extended for another three years till 31 December 2026.

If you are a US tax resident, you can support and make a significant impact on NUS by contacting the "NUS America Foundation Inc.", a charitable organisation with tax-exempt 501 (c)(3) status under US law. For more information, please click here.

If you are not a Singapore tax resident, you are encouraged to investigate your individual country's tax exemption laws to determine whether you qualify for tax exemption.

Dollar-For-Dollar Government Matching
Dollar-For-Dollar Government Matching

Your gift will double in value right at the onset. It will attract a dollar-for-dollar matching grant from the Government that goes into the School's Endowment Fund, which provides support to the School in perpetuity.

To honor and express appreciation to the donor, appropriate recognition will be given to the donor on our website, publications and press releases. In addition, the School offers multiple naming opportunities and recognition to acknowledge the generosity of our donors. This name will appear in all of the School's collaterals.
