NAVIGATING A WORLD IN CRISIS

To celebrate LKYSPP’s 20^th Anniversary, the school will be hosting its flagship event named “Festival of Ideas”. The previous Festival of Ideas was held in 2019, which was the school’s 15^th Anniversary and in 2022, which was the school’s 18^th Anniversary.

Held between 16 to 20 September October 2024 (Mon to Fri), the festival will be a fully physical event where attendees can attend on-site at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, located within the Singapore Botanic Garden - a UNESCO World Heritage site.

During the five-day celebration, the festival will be offering a wide variety of programmes ranging from distinguished lectures series, panel discussions, book launches, to dialogue with the minister, workshops and many more. This will be one of LKY School’s largest events, involving all of our faculty, alumni, students, research centres and partners.

The theme for the third biennial LKYSPP Festival of Ideas will be “Navigating a World in Crisis: Transforming Governance through Asia”. The world today is mired in a polycrisis that threatens the foundations of shared prosperity and progress. More than ever, we need good governance within nations in Asia and across the international community. Ideas matter. They must be grounded in research and communicated to decision makers and the wider public to bring about change. This has been the mission of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy since its establishment twenty years ago. As we mark this milestone, we invite you to engage with our faculty, students and partners on the transformative ideas and issues reshaping our world in the Festival of Ideas 2024. 

How many days is the festival?

The festival will be held for five days between 16 to 20 September 2024 (Monday to Friday).

2. Is there a dress code for the festival?

   The dress code for the event is office attire or smart casual.

3. Is this a hybrid festival?

   The festival will be a fully physical event where speakers and participants are on-site.

4. Will the speakers be physically present at the venue?

   The speakers will be physically present at the venue.

5. Is my place guaranteed for physical events?

   Admission is on a first-come-first-served. Please do arrive in good time to take your seat ten minutes before the start time to avoid disappointment.

6. Will latecomers be allowed entry for physical events?

   We encourage our attendees to be punctual for all sessions. However, latecomers will be allowed to enter so long as there is space in the room and the event will not be disturbed.
   

7. Will the speakers’ presentation be available after the event?

   Upon approval from the speaker(s), the presentation will be publicised online for participants to access.

8. Can I ask questions to the speakers during the speeches and sessions?

   There will be a dedicated Q&A segment at each session, where selected audience will be able to field their questions to the speakers.

9. What time does the festival starts?

   Registration will start at the following timings:

   • 16 September From 9.30am onwards
   • 17 September: From 9.30am onwards
   • 18 September: From 9.30am onwards
   • 19 September: From 10.00am onwards
   • 20 September: From 10.00am onwards

     Physical sessions will start at the following timings:

   • 16 September From 10.30am to 6.45pm
   • 17 September: From 10.30am to 6.45pm
   • 18 September: From 10.30am to 6.45pm
   • 19 September: From 10.30am to 6.45pm
   • 20 September: From 10.30am to 7.30pm

      

10. Where do I register for the event on the event day?

    Registration will take place at the Lobby of Oei Tiong Ham Building at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, NUS Bukit Timah Campus.
    

11. Is there any way that I can catch the session if I have missed it?

For selected sessions, the event will be recorded and you can watch it on the school’s YouTube Channel 2-3 weeks after the event day.

1. Do I have to pay any fees to attend the festival?

   Yes, you are required to purchase an access pass priced at S$87.20 (w GST) and should you like to add on 1 workshop or site-visit, it will be priced at $98.10 (w GST) to attend the sessions physically. Do write to us at lkyspp-foi@@nus.edu.sg if you have a minimum of 5pax for a special group rate.
   

2. Can an overseas guest pay to attend the festival?

   Yes, overseas guest will be able to participate physically for the festival when they purchase an access pass.
   

3. Does the purchase of the access pass entitle me to all five days of the festival?

   Both the Standard and Standard + Add-On access passes grant entry to all five days of the festival. However, please note that only the "Standard + Add-On" access pass includes an additional workshop or site visit. The access pass does not grant entry to closed-door sessions that are by invitation only.
   

4. Are there single-day access pass purchase available for selected dates of the festival?

   No, there are no single-day access pass available for purchase.
   

5. What are the available modes of payment?

   No cash payment is allowed. Payments can only be made via PayNow, Online VISA, Mastercard, Amex or Alipay.
   

6. How do I purchase the access pass?

   You can purchase the access pass by registering for the event via https://lkyspp.nus.edu.sg/news-events/events/foi-2024
   

7. Can I refund my access pass?

   No refund will be accepted under any circumstances. The access pass, however, will be transferable. You may inform us of your request to transfer the access pass via email at lkyspp-foi@@nus.edu.sg with the participant details of your transfer.
   

8. Can I transfer my access pass to other people?

   Should you not be able to attend the festival for the full duration (from 16 to 20 September), the access pass will be transferable. You may inform us of your request to transfer the access pass via email at lkyspp-foi@@nus.edu.sg with the participant details of your transfer.
   

9. If I can only attend a few days of the festival, can I transfer my access pass to other people?

   No, tickets are not allowed to be shared.
   

10. If I lost my access pass or forgot to bring it, will I be able to still attend?

    You may replace your access pass only once throughout the conference. Replacement can be made at the Registration at the Lobby, Oei Tiong Ham Building, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
    

11.  Is my registration confirmed before payment?

    To secure your seat for this event, you would be required to make payment within 24 hours of your online registration. Please note that seats will only be secured after payment has been received.
    

12. How do I know if my registration has been confirmed?

The festival will be held in Singapore at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, NUS Bukit Timah Campus.

     Hail a taxi along a road, at a taxi stand, or make a phone booking with one of the many taxi companies in Singapore.

     In Singapore, taxi cab fares must be charged by the taxi meter and are based on a flag down rate and the distance travelled. The flag down rate ranges from S$3.00 to S$5.00 (depending on the type of taxi). A location surcharge may also apply. Please check with the driver or taxi company on the surcharge and ask for a receipt at the end of the trip.

      

     During peak periods (e.g. 7am to 9.30am and 5pm to 11pm on weekdays), rainy days or festive seasons, demand for taxis rises. Try booking a taxi by phone. Do note that a booking fee is applicable.

The nearest MRT station to Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy is Botanic Garden MRT Station (CC19/DT9), located on the Downtown Line in Blue and on the Circle line in Orange.

From the Botanic Garden MRT Station, you may choose to walk through the Botanic Gardens or take the NUS shuttle bus from the bus stop opposite of the station.

For guests going by bus, you may use the following webpage at https://www.google.com/maps. Input in your location you will be coming from and Click the Transit  which will advise you on which suitable bus or MRT to take and its schedule. -        Walking

When you arrive at Botanic Garden MRT Station (CC19/DT9), take Exit A. You will see the Botanic Garden Gate on your right. Follow the route on the map below and you will reach LKY School in 11mins.

-        Shuttle bus

Taking the Shuttle Bus to Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy

The bus station for the shuttle bus is located at the bus stop opposite of Botanic Garden MRT Station (CC19/DT9). You may get off at the next station which is the Oei Tiong Ham Building. The bus stop is located beside the main entry of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy where the Festival of Ideas is held.

You can take the NUS shuttle bus to the nearest MRT station: Botanic Garden Station.

The interval between each bus is around 30mins.

1. What are the parking arrangements at the venue of the event?

   Public may park at the white lots around the campus.
   

2. What are the parking rates?

   Monday – Friday (before 5.00pm / 6.00pm)

   *$0.02/min from 7am to 10.30pm,

   maximum charge of $2.00 for vehicles entering from 7pm to 10.30pm
   

   *Parking at white parking lots only.

3. Will I be able to purchase parking coupons from the school?

   Unfortunately, we do not sell parking coupons at the school.
   

4. Is the venue accessible for persons with disabilities and elderly individuals with walking difficulties?

You may contact us via email in advance should you require assistance. We will stand by to activate the necessary lifts.

1. For physical events, can I bring food and drink in with me?

   We discourage food and drink in the venues. Please assist to clear any litter before you leave the venue.
   

2. During the physical events, where can I go for a drink or bite to eat before or after the event?

   -        Attendees may proceed to the summit which is the school’s canteen on campus for food and beverages. Do note that the festival’s access pass does not cover purchase at these places, and you will be required to cover these additional expenses.

   -        Also situated nearby is Sprouts Food Court which is around 5mins from the campus
   

3. Will there be halal, vegetarian and kosher meals options available at the venue?

   We have available Halal food stall at the Sprouts Food Court.
   

4. Will there be food or drinks at the festival?

Food will be available for purchase during the festival. Upon presenting your access pass, you will be entitled to one complimentary coffee or tea, subject to availability.

1. Will there be photography and videography during the event?

   Please note that photography, audio and video recording may occur during this event. All photography, audio and video recording may be used by the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and the National University of Singapore for educational, marketing, promotional and/or publication purposes. If you do not wish to have your image recorded or published, for compelling and legitimate grounds relating to your particular situation, please inform our staff.
   

2. Is photography and videography allowed at the event?

   For some of the events, photography and videography will be allowed. You may listen during the housekeeping message, if photography and videography is allowed.

    

   For session that allows photography and/or videography, you are welcome to take photos, screenshots, and/or videography at the event. However, please do not use flash photography at the physical events as it may be disruptive for other members of the audience and the speaker. Also, should you take any photography and videography, please be mindful and considerate to not obstruct the view of other participants.

   No, the LKY School does not have any business centre or computer facilities for external visitors.
