      Programme Overview

Futures Thinking is an approach that helps organisations and policymakers foresee how the world may look in the future due to decisions, actions and issues occurring in the present. The ability to think about the future enhances the capacity of decision-makers to anticipate change in complex environments, surface hidden assumptions, and uncover weaknesses and inflexibilities in their organisations.

In this run of Futures for Public Policy, we will deep dive into the Future of Work, envisioning future possibilities in the world of work and investigating the economic and social policy implications. By applying Futures Thinking to the world of work, we will explore potential scenarios facing workers, employers and society at large and examine the impact of these global trends on Singapore and beyond.

      TESTIMONIALS

      Futures for Public Policy

The pace of changes is increasing and disruptive technologies are upsetting the conventional way of doing things. The key to staying afloat in this uncertain world is to emphasise on future-proofing our infrastructure and processes. To do so, we would need a gauge of what the future beholds. The “Futures for Public Policy” programme offers us an opportunity to learn about structural methodology in trying to “hack” the future. The experienced trainers guided us through step-by-step processes in building different future scenarios which is necessary to aid us in our preparedness. It has indeed been an enriching 4-days with insightful learning.

      Futures for Public Policy

It was such a privilege and honour to learn from some of the best brains in Singapore on the topic of Futures Thinking and Scenario Planning. While I was proficiently taught to use the various tools and frameworks with finesse, what was most poignant to me was the learning to ask uncomfortable questions and the significance of being comfortable with the discomfort. I especially appreciated how the faculty members generously imparted real-world, practitioner-informed lessons which could only have been possible from their rich experiences from having been involved in Futures Thinking.

I had a great time learning together and exchanging ideas with my course mates. The trainers were well-versed in the concepts and used relevant case studies to enrich our learning. Their excellent facilitation skills also created a safe space for contestation of ideas.

      Futures for Public Policy

“The empires of the future are the empires of the mind.” Further to my participation in the Futures for Public Policy course, I feel empowered with the requisite knowledge about technical concepts such as driving forces, inclusivity and focal concern. I also learnt about strategic approaches such as effective change leadership, horizon scanning and talent management, to develop robust public policies, which adequately address futures work issues and contribute to national and global sustainable development. The opportunity to interact with and learn about futures experience from my international colleagues was an amazing and memorable experience. Terima kasih to the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and the Singapore Cooperation Programme (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore).
