The IPS Programme on Race, Religion and Intergroup Cohesion (IPS RRIC) leverages a decade of IPS’s research on social cohesion to offer a dynamic array of initiatives tailored to meet diverse needs. These different domains align with the ‘Protected Characteristics’ under Singapore’s upcoming Workplace Fairness Legislation that looks at implementing fair employment practices.
Developed by researchers in IPS Social Lab, the DNA approach is an encompassing and methodologically driven framework that takes cue from the components of attitudes in social psychology – cognition, affective, and behavioral.
Many individuals genuinely have good intentions, they may unknowingly hurt others with their words due to a lack of awareness of one’s own biases and privileges. Moreover, some individuals may have string intentions to address sensitive issues arising in the workplace or at school but lack the necessary skills to convey their ideas effectively.
The DNA approach will be instrumental in equipping individuals with practical skills and knowledge to foster racial sensitivity in their interactions. It will also facilitate participants to gain a deeper understanding of racial and religious dynamics and develop the tools to navigate sensitive situations with respect and empathy.
