About The Programme

In today’s world, the urgency of climate adaptation and disaster management has never been more evident. Climate change and the management of catastrophic events pose significant challenges to communities, economies, and ecosystems worldwide, with potentially devastating consequences if left unaddressed. This comprehensive program aims to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to understand, evaluate, and address climate risks effectively.

 

Through a combination of lectures, case studies, interactive discussions, and practical exercises, this program will empower participants to effectively lead and advocate for climate adaptation and develop resilience in their respective fields and communities. Together, we can address the challenges of climate change and build a more sustainable and resilient future for all.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Understand the urgency and necessity of climate adaptation, recognizing vulnerability to climate disasters & the potential physical and humanitarian consequences;
  2. Evaluate climate adaptation efforts, considering experiences with disasters, technological advancements, and government policies promoting adaptation;
  3. Analyze the impact of climate risks on infrastructure and real estate values, utilizing models such as the “climate alpha” model to inform public policy decisions;
  4. Assess the financial challenges associated with climate adaptation solutions and explore strategies to fund adaptation efforts;
  5. Recognize the geopolitical implications of climate change & disasters in the region, emphasizing the need for intergovernmental coordination to mitigate risks and foster resilience.

Target Audience

  1. Government officials at national and regional level focused on public policy in the climate adaptation and disaster management – ministry of environment, President/Prime Minister/Governor/Mayor’s office, and ministry of finance;
  2. Corporations who are highly vulnerable to climate disasters – natural resources, real estate developers, etc.;
  3. Companies in the climate adaptation solutions space;
  4. Director level or above, from an agency responsible for climate adaptation and climate financing from ASEAN countries.

Programme Format

  •  This will be an in-person programme that consists of lectures, group activities with faculty and an exhibition with industry experts. 
  • Sessions will be held from 9 am to 5 pm on 9 -11 Oct 2024 (Singapore Time)
  • Attendance for all sessions is compulsory.
    • At the end of this short course, you will be conferred a Certificate of Completion.

    KOTARO TAMURA, Adjunct Professor, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy

    Since 2014, Professor Tamura has been an adjunct professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore, where he runs the Asian Geopolitics Program for business leaders and policymakers, which has been operated for 20 runs with over 500 graduates. Professor Tamura will be a visiting professor at Hitotsubashi University Business School, Japan's number-one business school by international rankings, starting in 2023. Professor Tamura worked as an M&A deal maker at Yamaichi Securities Co. After studying in the U.S., Professor Tamura became president of Osaka Daily News, Osaka Nichinichi Shimbun and was elected to the House of Councillors in 2002, serving as a member until 2010. He served as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of the Cabinet Office (Economy and Finance, Finance, Re-engagement, and Decentralization) in the first Shinzo Abe administration. Professor Tamura was a fellow at Yale University in 2010, a research associate at Harvard University in 2011, and the only Japanese researcher at the time at the RAND Corporation, a think tank that has produced more Nobel Prize Laureates (29) than any other organization in the world. In 2012, he became the first Japanese politician to be the leading character of a Harvard Business School case (case study). He has been a limited partner of venture capital firms in the U.S., Singapore, Israel, and Africa. He is a CNBC commentator, a principal advisor to RIMM, an AI-based ESG/SDGs scoring service for corporates and governments, and a member of the Advisory Board of GIIS, the world's largest Indian international school. He is also Asia Fellow at Milken Institute, U.S.A. Professor Tamura is also an angel investor in global start-ups, investing in Silicon Valley, Israel, Africa, Southeast Asia, and India, focusing on Web 3.0, climate tech, food tech, robotics, and education. Also invested in SpaceX and Twitter. He is the author of the bestselling book series "Don't Fight Idiots When You're Mad" which has sold over 750,000 copies and many other books. Professor Tamura graduated from Waseda University and obtained MBA from Keio University Graduate School of Business, an LLM from Duke University Law School, and an MA in International and Development Economics from Yale University Graduate School. He holds an AMP from Oxford University and an EMP from the University of Tokyo.

    Ravi Chidambaram, President, TC Capital

    Ravi Chidambaram is a Co-Founder of TC Capital Pte Ltd and serves as its President. TC Capital is a leading boutique investment firm in Southeast Asia, with 15 professionals and billions of dollars in completed transactions. He has a 25-year career as an Investment Banker. He served as a Managing Director and Principal at Bear Stearns in London, where he ran its Investment Banking Technology Group. Mr. Chidambaram is also a Member of Advisory Board at Murray & Company Ltd., Yuuzoo Corporation Limited and Taishan Invest AG. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Yale-NUS College. He holds an M.B.A. from Wharton School, an M.A. and a Fulbright Scholar in Economics from University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in Political Economy from Duke University.
