The effects of corruption are critical to the World Bank's mandate of poverty reduction. In particular, its effect on the poor and the diversion of public resources to other uses which strangles economic growth. Corruption also impedes access of countries to private capital. The World Bank has developed integrity systems and new approaches to ensure that the financing it provides to its borrowing member countries are used for the purposes for which it was given. Mr Ofosu-Amaah will share his insights and the lessons learnt from the World Bank's efforts in combating corruption. |

Mr W Paatii Ofosu-Amaah is Vice President and Corporate Secretary for the World Bank Group. He is from Ghana and joined the Bank in 1978. Prior to this appointment, he served in various senior positions in the Legal Vice Presidency of the Bank, including Legal Adviser, Environmental Affairs, Chief Counsel, Africa Division with responsibility for the Bank's legal work in the Africa Region, Deputy General Counsel, the alter ego of the General Counsel, and Acting Vice President and General Counsel during which time, in addition to other responsibilities, he worked closely with the Board of Executive Directors and dealt with the legal issues relating to the Bank's work on Iraq. He is a member of the Senior Management Team of the Bank and is responsible for facilitating strategic focus, effective and efficient interactions between the Executive Directors and Senior Management to achieve the World Bank Group's overall mission of poverty reduction. |
