| Synopsis: |
|
Singapore has been labelled by some scholars as an 'illiberal democracy', but others note this is a democracy in transition and yet others claim this is a successful democracy.
This Forum will examine the future of the political system in Singapore. Speakers have been invited to reflect on the course of the General Elections which were held on 6 May (GE2006) and its outcome, and discuss its broader implications for politics, Singapore's political parties and the nature of political elections. A highlight of the Forum will be a session where leaders of the four parties that had contested GE2006 speak about their respective parties' prospects going forward. Another will be an analysis of a survey of voter attitudes commissioned by IPS.
