Profile

Sajjad Ashraf served as High Commissioner of Pakistan to Singapore from late July 2004 to December 2008. Prior to joining the Foreign Office in 1973 he was senior lecturer of Political Science at Gordon College, Rawalpindi. On completion of his Foreign Service career in 2008, he was appointed as Advisor to Fullerton Financial Holdings – the wholly owned subsidiary of Temasek Holdings – and is now based in Dubai. In addition he holds several other academic and consultancy positions including Adjunct Professor at the LKY School. His overseas postings include in addition to Singapore, Senegal with concurrent accreditation to six other countries, Netherlands, Dubai, South Korea, Nepal, Australia, Mozambique, and Kenya. While at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs prior to arrival in Singapore, he headed the Middle East Division during 2003-2004. During the mid-90s he worked in the South East Asia-Pacific Division. He also served as the Director at the Pakistan Foreign Service Academy during 1993-94. Mr Ashraf’s postings have allowed him to work in a broad range of countries, both in bi-lateral and multi-lateral settings like United Nations Environment Program. At The Hague he worked as Pakistan Permanent Delegate to the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. During his postings in Africa he worked closely with African liberation movements. Mr Ashraf holds a Masters degree in Political Science from Forman Christian College, Lahore, where he was ranked at the top of his class, and a Masters degree in Defense and Strategic Studies, with high honors, from National Defense College, Islamabad.
