Although the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy was formally launched in 2004, its legacy dates back to 1992, when the National University of Singapore established its Public Policy Programme in partnership with Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. This fifteen-year partnership with the Kennedy School of Government continues to be strong.

Most of the public policy concerns we face today know no borders. A world-class public policy institution must therefore provide its students with an international campus and network which foster learning and encourage solutions that develop from genuine knowledge of local and global realities.

To provide our students with a public policy education in a distinctive environment that is at once Asian and global, we have established numerous partnerships with other premier public policy institutions in Asia, Europe and North America, including Peking University, Tokyo University’s Graduate School of Public Policy, Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences PO), the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. These partnerships translate into faculty and students exchanges between institutions.

The School is also a charter member of PolicyNet, an innovative initiative by Princeton University ‘s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, which seeks to revolutionise public affairs research in schools by establishing an online public policy community.

The School is also the first outside the United States to have a formal fellowship agreement with the European Commission in Brussels, creating the European Institutions Fellowship. Mr Etienne Reuter was the first Fellow to join the School from 2006-2007. This year, the School welcomed Mr Jan Willem Blankert from the European Commission.

In August 2007, the School also received Ms Sunaina Lowe, the first United Nations Fellow under the UN Dialogue with the Global South Fellowship.
