Introduction
In January 2007, the first volume of the online newsletter, LKYSPPeak was released. With an editorial team comprising students, LKYSPPeak features articles and interviews on contemporary policy issues in Asia, school updates, special events, guest interviews, op-eds, and student and alumni profiles. The second volume included articles on global health governance, energy security, Bangkok’s traffic gridlock, India’s inflation and the Philippine mid-term elections. It also featured an interview with LKYSPP’s former Director of Administration, BG (Ret) Eric Tan Huck Gim, who was appointed Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Timor-Leste in November 2006.
The newsletter is distributed to the School’s Governing Board, alumni and current students, faculty and staff.

Some of the world’s foremost political minds, economists, diplomats and business leaders visit LKYSPP throughout the year. Writing for LKYSPPeak, will give you an opportunity to meet speakers like Tony Blair, Mohammad Yunus and P. Chidambaram and if you are lucky Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew himself. You will have a chance to engage in active dialogues with imminent speakers and gauge public opinion and the views of your peers in your writings, analysis and commentary.
From our humble beginnings LKYSPPeak has grow into a community. Editors at the LKYSPPeak are a diverse group of people with a wide variety of interests. Editors come from all across the globe and from different personal and professional backgrounds. LKYSPPeak offers a wealth of resources, knowledge and friendships.
When the weather is sunny outside you will find editors coming together for barbeques or for a game of soccer at the spacious ground outside the Manasseh Mayer (MM) building.

How to join us?
The official way to become an editor is just mail us your resume and schedule a meeting with the Editor in chief and the editorial board. Anyone who demonstrates competency will be recruited as an editor.
There are several areas where you can show us your skills and talents and it is not just limited to writing, reporting and editing.
We are looking to fill the following positions:
‘Alumni editor’, ‘Student life editor’, ‘Travelogue editor’, ‘Events and Highlights editor’, ‘Editorial and Specials editor’ as well as ‘Copy editors’. The administrative positions we are looking to fill are the logistics head as well as Treasurer.

If you are interested to write for us but are unable to fulfill the commitments of being a full time editor, feel free to contact us expressing interest concerning the same. Additionally, the editorial board is happy to discuss your ideas with you and inform you about guidelines and requirements for making a submission to the newsletter.

Q. How long will I have to work for LKYSPPeak?
We recruit members to the editorial team on a commitment of completing one semester of active service for the newsletter. Many of our editors usually continue for a whole year and contribute to two volumes of the newsletter. There is no stipulated requirement in terms of hours per week, but a requirement to meet deadlines and quality standards.
Q. Is the LKYSPPeak a lot of work?
Since there is a lot of decentralization, and each editor is required to focus on a particular task it is not a lot of work. With proper co-ordination and time management editors, find that the work is enjoyable and worth the effort.
Q. There is so much happening on campus; why should I join LKYSPPeak?
Simply put, LKYSPPeak is the only newsletter on campus. As a young enterprise, there is a lot of scope for incorporation of good ideas and contributions from editors. Also meetings at the student lounge and thinking corner see muffins and pots of coffee flowing as well as laughter and blossoming friendships. The newsletters is productive and meaningful outlet to your creative energies as well as a break from the usually hectic academic schedule We are certain that our editors will look back at their days with LKYSPPeak with fond memories. |
