Vice-Dean, Research
The National University of Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy invites applications for the position of Vice-Dean for Research. It is an exciting opportunity for someone seeking a leadership role in a dynamic and well-resourced institution The Vice-Dean of Research is one of several deans who report directly to the Dean of the School and is a full-time position with internationally competitive remuneration and benefits.

Responsibilities
- Recommend strategic directions for research
- Identify areas of research strength within the School and recommend policies and procedures to manage and promote such areas

- Ensure that mechanisms and funding opportunities are in place to nurture and develop new researchers; ensure that appropriate quality assurance policies and procedures are developed, implemented and monitored
- Develop and implement an annual research budget for the School
- Supervise and coordinate large research funding applications which are appropriately coordinated at senior levels
- Establish mechanisms to guarantee that all research is carried out in accordance with ethical guidelines and legal requirements
- Assist in the selection, development and management of research support staff
- Seek and promote opportunities for national and international collaboration in research

Visiting Associate Professor/Senior Research Fellow for Asia Competitiveness Institute (ACI)
About the Institute
National competitiveness is a major issue of concern in public policy as it is an important determinant of economic prosperity in a country. The Asia Competitiveness Institute (ACI), was set up to spearhead research studies in the region on competitiveness issues, such as the creation of new economic value, the development of a conducive microeconomic environment to attract investment and enable innovation, and the development of policy institutions to develop economic competitiveness. As the region develops, the ability to understand and develop competitiveness at the cluster, national and regional level will be a key factor determining its long term economic viability and prosperity.
The Institute works in close collaboration with the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness (ISC) led by Prof Michael Porter of Harvard Business School as a strategic partner to learn and leverage on its expertise and competitiveness model to embark on studies in ASEAN, including Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, and other economies. The Visiting Associate Professor/Senior Research Fellow will both undertake independent research and projects, and support the work of the ACI Director on the Institute’s broad agenda.
Essential Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD in economics, business, policy or related field with a good track record of research output. Broad understanding of economic and competitiveness issues in the region is required. The successful candidate will have outstanding research and writing skills, the ability to take the initiative in research, and supervise a research team. Research Fellow (Systems Thinking for Public Policy) for Institute of Water Policy(IWP)
The position provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the application of systems thinking and dynamic modeling of public policy, with a focus on water, energy, and agriculture sector policies, for delivering better urban water and sanitation services and mitigating local and trans-boundary river pollution. The Fellow, in addition to participating and collaborating in the research program of the Institute (see IWP web for the Medium Term Research Program), will have ample freedom to pursue independent research as long as value addition to knowledge and delivered outputs are of high standard. The candidate will also be expected to participate in some of the teaching and outreach programs of the institute in the area of system dynamics modeling.
Duration
The position will be full-time for 1 year, with possibility of renewal depending on the quality of work.

The position provides the opportunity to contribute to a cutting-edge research in water policy-related studies and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) frameworks. The Fellow shall support the evaluation studies on policies and their implementation processes as the Task Manager. These studies will provide policy input to developing countries to improve the effectiveness of water-related project designs and implementations. The Fellow will also conduct research in Public-Private Partnerships – to identify areas that may be amenable to greater commonality, integration, efficiency gains etc.

Research Fellow (Economics)
Project Title: Demographic Change, Economic Behaviour, and Public Finances in South East Asia
The Project
The project examines the impact of demographic change on economic behaviour and public finances in South East Asia. The project will conduct empirical analysis on the effects of population aging on individual and household income, consumption, savings, wealth, and ultimately on public finances, at both the national and sub-national levels. The project will target Indonesia, Philippines, Viet Nam, and Thailand.
The project will provide a comprehensive and dynamic representation of population change in the region and its likely fiscal and economic impacts with a view to developing a sound basis for policy-making related to various aspects of public finances, in the medium-term.
The Position
The position provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on the interface areas of public finance, demography and economic behavior. The Fellow will:
- Collect and organize primary data through field research, interviews, and electronic surveys;
- Complete literature surveys and data analysis;
- Construct economic models;
- Liaise with researchers in Indonesia, Philippines, Viet Nam and Thailand;
- Draft and edit research reports, policy briefs, and final publications
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
- Post Graduate Degree from a reputed university in economics or economic-demography;

Research Fellow (Health and Social Policy)
The Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, an autonomous graduate school within the National University of Singapore, invites applications for the position of Research Fellow. The commencement date is immediate but negotiable.
Applicants in all areas of public policy or public health will be considered. Candidates with a background in trend monitoring and futures projection, or Asian comparative health and public policy, are particularly encouraged to apply. A substantive background in social and developmental issues in Asia is also advantageous.
Position Description
The Research Fellow will be an integral part of the Rockefeller Foundation supported research project titled Trend Monitoring in Asia. The project has two distinctive parts: 1) monitoring of the formal health systems developments, bilateral and multilateral health-related activities, ongoing public events governing health and health services in Southeast Asia with deep analysis of the actors, forces and interests; and 2) active monitoring and analysis of specific variables, all of which are indicators of health systems development.
The Research Fellow will be responsible for daily scanning of media, conferences, policy announcements, parliamentary debates, ministerial and thought-leader speeches as they relate to sector developments, ideational changes or emergent policy directions. In addition, the Research Fellow will undertake a weekly literature review of academic and professional papers within the sector, highlighting relevant analyses for the sector. The Research Fellow will help prepare materials for the Team Leader and collaborate in the production of the Trend Monitoring Bulletin.
Additional duties will include the dissemination of the Trend Monitoring Bulletin, development of a distribution date base, conducting interviews with relevant stakeholders and gauging reactions to issue developments and policy announcements or debates.
The Research Fellow may be required to undertake some travel in the region.

Full-time/Part-time Research Assistants (Economics)
Project Title: Trade, Technology and Growth Linkages in Asia
The Project
This project aims to explore trade, foreign direct investment, technology and productivity linkages among firms, and assess how their interactions with the policy environment impact on the economic growth of countries in Asia. The countries of initial focus are Singapore, Indonesia, China and Australia.
The Positions
Two research assistant positions (one full-time and one part-time) are available. The full-time position will be for 1 year, renewable for a maximum of 3 years. These positions will provide excellent training and experience for persons with interests to pursue doctoral studies and/or develop research careers.

To lead, develop and oversee ACI's competitiveness policy advisory and research program in the ASEAN region
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- To develop and oversee new programs and projects in competitiveness studies that can provide strategic inputs to public policy development in ASEAN

Essential Qualifications & Requirements
- A good Master's degree in an appropriate discipline with the requisite consulting and advisory experience at a senior level or a good PhD in an appropriate discipline with demonstrated project management and advisory work with senior executives
- Demonstrated leadership and team-building in collaborative, multidisciplinary environments
- Strong analytical, methodological and conceptual skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Effective interpersonal skills that contribute to strong team processes

Executive Assistant to Assistant Deans (2 year contract)
To provide research and administrative support to Assistant Dean (Student Affairs) and Assistant Dean (Academic Affairs)
Major Responsibilities
- Provide secretariate assistance where needed for Academic Affairs team under the Assistant Deans' supervision
- Provide administrative support and logistical support for all of Assistant Deans' activities
- Schedule and update Assistant Deans' calendar of appointments
- Prepare and manage all files (digital and hard-copies) related to Assistant Deans' duties
- Attend to e-mails and alert Assistant Deans of any immediate follow-up action
- Process reimbursement of claims: Overseas Traveling Expenses, Entertainment
Expenses and medical expenses
- Communicating internally and external organizations regarding seminars and events related to student activities
- Provide assistance for all School-level student activities
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
- Have a bachelor degree or a diploma
- Possess secretarial qualifications have at least 2
years experience serving senior management
- Able to work independently and as a team and commit to working hours beyond the norm
- Have good organizational skills as well as strong verbal and written communication
skills in English including letter and email writing
- Able to communicate effectively, courteously and confidently with members of the
public and high-ranking people external to the School
- Able to work well with student leaders and organizers
- Well-versed in Microsoft Office applications and has the ability to learn how to use softwares and databases very fast
- Have very good people skills, open-minded, service-minded. Enjoy working with students.

Major Responsibilities
Corporate, secretarial and administrative support
- Assist to schedule and update Director’s calendar of appointments
- Assist to organize and arrange all logistics for meetings and appointments

Events Management
