Code of Conduct
(May 2009)
|
The Code of Conduct reflects the values and standards of behaviour shared by the academic community at the LKY School, consisting principally of students, faculty, and researchers. These values and expectations go beyond the basic requirement of complying with NUS regulations and the laws of the land. The Code is not meant to limit freedoms, the ability to exercise initiative, and the capacity for individual moral reasoning; but it serves to encourage behaviour that maximizes learning, given the resources and opportunities available at the School.

- Collaborative work brings out the best in one another

- We make the effort to understand what counts as plagiarism and why this is wrong
- We are honest and sincere in our dealings with one another
- Spirit of Enquiry
- We appreciate the value of open debate, conducted in conditions of mutual respect
- We appreciate the value of critical thinking and, through a positive attitude, understand that constructive criticism should not be met by defensiveness
- We adopt a holistic approach to learning, appreciating the value of multicultural and multidisciplinary modes of enquiry
- We take a problem-solving approach to learning, combining theory and practice in sophisticated ways
- Diversity
- We are open-minded about new experiences, unconventional ideas, and different cultures
- We understand the value of diversity as a powerful learning resource
- We relate to one another with cultural sensitivity and mutual respect, particularly where differences of nationality, race, ethnicity, religion, class, gender, sexuality, age, status, and physical ability are concerned
- We understand the value of unity and teamwork, while respecting differences
