The New Economy of the Dollar


Synopsis:

OMFIF convenes a panel of speakers including Duvvuri Subbarao, former governor of the Reserve Bank of India, to examine the future of the dollar in the international monetary system. The meeting focuses on the dollar’s role as the world’s primary reserve currency, the future of the multi-currency reserve system, and macroeconomic implications for official asset managers.

Chairman of OMFIF Advisory Board

Lord Meghnad Desai, Chairman of OMFIF’s Advisory Board, is Emeritus Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science, which he joined in 1965, and established the Centre for the Study of Global Governance in 1992. Desai has been a member of the House of Lords select committee on EU Financial Affairs since July 2016.

Sebastian Mallaby

Paul A. Volcker Senior Fellow for International Economics at the Council on Foreign Relations

Sebastian Mallaby is the Paul A. Volcker senior fellow for international economics at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). He is the author of The Man Who Knew: The Life & Times of Alan Greenspan, winner of the 2016 Financial Times/McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award and the 2017 George S. Eccles Prize in Economic Writing.

David Marsh

Managing Director and Co-Founder of OMFIF

David Marsh is Managing Director of OMFIF. He is Senior Adviser to asset management company Soditic and Chairman of the Advisory Board of Independent Investment Bank London & Oxford Capital Markets. Previously, he worked for city Mmerchant bank Robert Fleming, corporate finance boutique Hawkpoint and german management consultancy Droege.

Danny Quah

Li Ka Shing Professor of Economics, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy

Danny Quah is Li Ka Shing Professor of Economics at the Lee Kuan Yew School.  His research interests include income inequality, economic growth, and international economic relations. His current research is on an economic approach to world order: he studies the supply and demand of world order, i.e., on the one hand, what international system the world’s superpowers provide, and on the other, what world order the global community needs.

Duvvuri Subbarao

Distinguished Visiting Fellow, NUS Business School and the Institute of South Asian Studies, and Former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India

Dr Duvvuri Subbarao was Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 2008-13. Prior to that, he was Finance Secretary to the Government of India and Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council. Dr Subbarao joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1972.
